USEED was founded in 2011 by two young alumni passionate about helping student entrepreneurs increase funding for their ideas. However, in their research and countless all-nighters fueled by energy drinks, Matt Racz and Tim Walsh learned that there was a bigger system in need of a fundraising facelift - the colleges and universities themselves. If they could help universities increase funding at scale, not only would student entrepreneurs have access to more money and community engagement, but so would sports teams, faculty researchers, student organizations - everyone!
At the time, crowdfunding had just stepped onto the scene, so no reliable solution existed for higher education yet. Instead, options were limited to technology and systems that 1) didn’t integrate with fundraising offices’ current databases, workflows, and goals or 2) were clunky, ugly, and all-around not fun to use.
As it turns out, building the technology and systems that were both integrated and cutting edge was really, really hard. We created before we knew the rules of the game. We made assumptions. We failed. But with fire within us, we still stand unified with colleges and universities around the world in extracting the countless stories that make them wholly and fully “them.”
Along the way, we collected our passionate and brilliant CEO, Ross Sylvester, who dreams a future for higher education brighter than the sun, two life-long friends and investors, Edoardo Bugnone and John Moore, who are helping to accelerate our growth by providing deep wisdom with every opportunity we have, and a handful of colleagues-turned-friends and friends-turned-colleagues who are working day-to-day to realize our collective dream.
Today, our small but mighty team of entrepreneurs, educators, and technologists remain focused on creating a reliable, predictive infrastructure for colleges and universities to transform the giving experience through beautiful, user-friendly technology and real-life, real-time human services.
We’re with you, higher education, and we can’t wait to see what we get to build together.
We’ve seen an increase in multiple gifts from individual donors, and without hiring a single additional staff member we have enriched our donor messaging platform, increased the number and variety of solicitations that we send, and have started to explore ways in which the data we collect from USEED campaigns can help us improve donor retention. At the end of the day, USEED helps us work smarter.
USEED is our ticket to playing the innovation game. Small schools, like us, desperately want to innovate and be a part of what's new in fundraising. USEED has created a model to move our fundraising efforts forward.
Following the simple steps outlined on their web platform and staying true to their model, in the first week we attained 60% of our goal and at the close of the 30-day campaign we raised $37,500 from 171 donors. I encourage all who are tired of hearing that there are “no funds in the budget,” or “due to cutbacks,” to investigate USEED as an option to maintain FULL SPEED AHEAD (I am a Navy guy and had to throw that in).
After I met our Campaign Advisor, I knew that USEED's platform would help us accomplish our goals. After the first day of the campaign, I was jumping for joy because, in just one day, we had almost raised $2,000! By the end of our campaign, we had raised over $10,000 for the team and were thrilled with our success.
